Teaching Vocabulary to Junior high school Students Through Snake-Word Game

The English teacher can use game in teaching vocabulary, the game is called Snake Word Game. The Snake Word Game is one of the games that make students easier to memorize some vocabularies. Teacher may choose this game because the game has simple rules and it is easy to be practiced. Besides, it also does not need much preparation. Teacher just has to prepare a simple picture to brainstorm students’ vocabulary. The next the process depends on the students to write vocabulary that they have known based on the game rules. The Snake Word Game can be the solution in teaching vocabulary, because junior high schools’ students are more interested in game than listening’ explanation their teacher. This game also makes students more active in learning vocabulary.

            Vocabulary has an important role for people to make them easy in communication. In order to cummunicate well in foreign language we must have vocabulary mastering whether it helps us to speak fluently. Sometimes, Learning vocabulary will feel bored by students because they haven't changed their habit, such as writing words on a paper. So, for avoid this happening, we should develop students' interesting in learning Vocabulary. Teacher should use another strategy to develop their interest. Therefore, the most effective strategy is using  game through vocabulary learning. To measure the effectiveness of learning through game in the classroom, as the teacher we want to know how  students' experience  help with their learning and what process they gain. For many learners of English, whenever they think of vocabulary, they think of learning a list of new words with meanings in their native language without any real context practice. A number of learners may share the same experience of looking up words in a bilingual dictionary to find their meanings or definitions when they encounternew words. They may even write down lines of new words without any idea of the real use of them in context. So, teach them using games exactly will develop their interest.
